About Me
I am Vivi Gitt Nathalie Vold, an Inuk woman deeply connected to the land and traditions of South Greenland. My journey began in the hunting grounds of Narsarmijit and has taken me to the academic halls of Ilisimatusarfik. Born on June 29, 1981, in Nuuk, I carry the name of my grandfather, my Ittu, Nathaniel, and my bilingual upbringing in Kalaallisut and Danish from my mother, Emma, from Narsarmijit, and my father, Cato, from Oslo, Norway.

Ancestral wisdom in western Academia
My education spans from Nanortalik and Nuuk to Samsø, Denmark, culminating in a gymnasium graduation in Nuuk in 2001 and a degree in Multimedia Design from Aarhus Købmandsskole. Anaana (mother) to the births of Liam (2006) and Norah (2009) in Nuuk, has profoundly influenced my life and work.
Driven by a desire to understand and put life to our stories, I earned a Master’s degree in Cultural and Society History from Ilisimatusarfik in 2020 and currently pursuing a PhD in upcoming biology program, focusing on Indigenous knowledge systems, values, competencies and ways of knowing.
Beyond academics, I am a dedicated advocate for local communities, involved in political and community projects for Inuit Kalaallit in Denmark, from addressing homelessness to enhancing safety with Kofoeds School in Aarhus.
My journey is about ancestral wisdom, art, filmmaking in a western world, inspired by the resilience of Inuit ancestors and the spirit of our community.
